Why is that? Because if the computer is already infected with the virus, usually the first thing the virus do is to disable the existing antivirus, if not successful then the virus will prevent the antivirus from removing it. So what if this happens?
There are several ways if the computer is already infected with the virus, and if the virus is already installed and can not be handle.
1. Install or use another antivirus
If you still can install another Antivirus, then you should try this method first. Use the latest antivirus program, immediately scan when you finish the install, or it would be better if you can do the updates first. Probably for most antivirus that does not work, because the virus usually had anticipated this.
2. Scan the hard drive in another computer
If you have multiple computers or a friend who has a computer with an updated antivirus, then try a scan on that computer. The best way is to remove the hard drive and installed on a friend's computer, and then do a thorough scan.
This does require a knowledge on installing the hard drive (technically on the computer), so maybe if you never done this there is a possibility that you are going to have trouble. We recommend that you ask your friends who know better. In addition, it usually can not be done on a laptop that is still in warranty time, because if you removing the hard drive, it is usually ruining the warranty label on the laptop. So maybe you can try the third method.
3. Scan with antivirus bootable CD
Bootable CD meant here is a CD that contains the operating system (either simple or complex) that can run without the need to be installed on a computer hard drive. That way, all of the programs on the hard drive, including viruses will not run, but can be accessed via a bootable CD.
There are several Free Bootable CD which has included antivirus program and can be used, among other :
- Ultimatebootcd (UBCD), DOS-based bootable CD, so it may be a little dificult for those unfamiliar with DOS.
- UBCD4Win (Ultimate Boot CD for Windows). It is a development of UBCD, and has Windows XP that is based so much easier for users. But to make a bootable CD of this, Windows XP installation CD is required.
- AntiVir Rescue System, a Linux-based bootable CD. Compared to other bootable CD before, AntiVir Rescue System is a bootable CD that specifically deal with the virus, this application is always updated, maybe even every day there are always additional new virus on the database, so it is very useful.
4. Scan and remove virus manually
This can be done for those who are already quite familiar with the operating system, especially windows, various techniques of virus (spread, infecting etc.), various information about a computers file or directory, and any other. This method should be performed through a bootable CD (you can use any of the 3 Bootable CD above or with a Linux Live CD such as Ubuntu, Knoppix and others).
5. Re-Installing OS
This may be the last alternative if any of the above methods can not be done, or if you want a quicker way. But with the completion of the re-installing does not always guarantee that the computer is virus free again, the virus could infect other programs that are installed later. In addition, if we have to install a lot of computer program, then maybe re-installing takes quite a long time and tiring.
This method may also not be possible if your computer/laptop use an OEM operating systems have been installed since we bought, because it is usually does not included the Installation CD. Clearly if you want to re-install, make sure that the CD driver of the computer/laptop is already available. In addition, it should be known what kind of virus that infects the computer before re-installing.
