In this article I will discuss about how to fix a damaged hard disk due to bad sectors. Previously, to check the condition of the hard disk we can use several application programs as mentioned in the article on How to Fix Hard Disk Damage using Checkdisk.

Bad sectors or bad blocks is a term used to refer to damaged area on the hard disk. There are two types of Bad Sectors on hard disk in general, physical bad sectors and bad sectors in the software. Physical Bad sectors occurs because of damage to the hard disk plate that can occur due to disk exposed to dust, falling, hard impact, or other reasons. While the bad sectors in software may occur when the hard disk is on working, but suddenly the computer is turned off, for example due to power failure.

With hardisk tool utility like HD Tune, we can do Error Scan to find bad sector on hardisk.

Bad Sectors on Hard Disk

There are several applications that can be used to repair damage caused by the hard disk bad sectors, including the following:

A. Fixing bad sectors on the hard disk by using HDD Low Level Format Tool

Low level format program is a utility that serves to erase all information on the hard disk, including partitioning, data, and information of the existence of bad sectors. After running the low level format on the hard disk, then the hard disk condition will be really clean just like new. So before you do this, make sure your important data has been backed up first. Looking at the function, besides it is used to repair bad sectors, we can use low level format tool to clean up very personal or confidential data permanently.

Here are the steps for using HDD Low Level Format Tool:
  1. Install and run the program HDD Low Level Format tools 
  2. Select the disk to be processed, then click "Continue" so it appears as below:


  3. Select the "LOW-LEVEL FORMAT", then click "FORMAT THIS DEVICE"
  4. Wait until the process is completed. The process could take some time, depending on the capacity of the hard disk is processed, so give it enough time.
