Although it seems trivial, but wrong steps when doing BIOS reset can cause the motherboard BIOS or other components to be damaged, at least that is what I have ever experienced. Here is a step by step on how to reset the computer motherboard BIOS the right way:
- Make sure that the computer is not connected to any power source. This can be done by unplugging the power cord from the outlet and unplug the power supply (24-pin power cable) from the computer's motherboard.
- Wait for a while to make sure that the electric current has been lost. To speed up the loss (wasting) the rest of the electric current on the motherboard, we can press the power button on the computer.
- Find a button or jumper labeled CLR CMOS. For the jumper there are two kind of jumper that consists of a 3-pin and 2-pin. To clear the CMOS, or reset the BIOS, press the reset button. For the 3-pin type jumper, move the jumper to other side. While for the 2-pin type jumper, we just have to do the jumper process on the two pins, if it is difficult to find any standard jumper, just use a screwdriver to do the jumper process on the pins. As long as that both pins can be connected (short). Allow a few seconds in that position.
- After that move the jumper back to its original position for the 3-pin type jumper, or pull the jumper for the 2-pin type jumper. Put back the power supply cable to the motherboard. Make sure everything is strung correctly and then re-connect the computer to a power source.
- Restart the computer. If the BIOS reset is successful, the BIOS settings will return to its original states. In some case of computer damage that the computer can not boot, after resetting the BIOS, usually the computer will boot normally.
- If resetting the BIOS does not work, do again steps 1-2, then unplug the BIOS battery and re do steps 3-5.
- If that still does not work, repeat steps 1-2, disconnect all power supply cables to the motherboard, remove the BIOS battery and computer Memory (RAM) computer. Repeat steps 3-5.
- The last step to reset the BIOS if any of the above methods does not work as well is do again steps 1-2, then unplug all the components on the motherboard like the processor, RAM and other extra card such as VGA Card. Clean the motherboard from any dirt and repeat step 3, but this time let it be for 30 minutes. Then repeat steps 3-5.
